4K Media scores first major deal for Yu-Gi-Oh!

April 23, 2013 - Konami's 4K Media has scored its major programming deal for the Yu-Gi-Oh! anime brand since securing the rights outside of Asia last year.Konami 4K Media

US children's channel Nicktoons has bought two seasons of the latest installment, Yu-Gi-Oh! ZEXAL, along with the entire Yu-Gi-Oh! library, which includes Classic Yu-Gi-Oh!, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX and Yu-Gi-Oh! 5Ds.

A 4K Media rep confirmed to TBI the deal was the first broadcast agreement since it took on its current moniker in October, with others pending.

4K Media is a New York-based subsidiary of Konami Digital Entertainment, which itself is part of video games giant Konami. 4K was initially launched last summer as 4K Acquisition Corp, an investment vehicle that secured rights outside Asia to the brand from the now-defunct 4Kids Entertainment. Saban Brand secured 4Kids' Saturday morning programming block on The CW and rebranded it as Vortexx.

4K Media is headed up by former 4Kids exec Kristen Gray, who is senior VP, and Peter Bloom, senior VP, finance. Brian Lacey, who initially brought the brand to the US and was with 4Kids until September last year, is a broadcast sales consultant through his Lacey Entertainment imprint.

Japanese toon company Toei Animation created Yu-Gi-Oh! in 1998 and Nihon Ad Systems created another version six years later. The franchise has since broadcast in numerous territories internationally.

Nick's channels have broadcast Yu-Gi-Oh! internationally on nets in Australia and Latin America, among others.

From Deck-building clinics for the novice player to the more competitive Main Event, the San Diego Convention Center was abuzz with anticipation and energy as Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Duelists prepared to take on their peers during the two-day event.

Saturday's early rounds brought a new sealed-Deck format to day one - using Battle Pack: Epic Dawn booster packs, players constructed their Decks on the spot. Moving into Sunday, Duelists were able to use their own well-worn Decks, each hoping that it would be strong enough to take them to the Final Round.
Angel Ascenscio emerged victorious as the new YCS Champion
As Sunday's Final Round neared, the players were pulling out all stops but only two advanced to the Champion's table where Angel Ascencio and Michael Steinman prepared to battle for the ultimate title of YCS Champion.

The two top Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Duelists did not disappoint the crowd as Duel after Duel proved that the duo was indeed the best representation of the weekend's other impressive participants.

Ascencio was confident that his Merlantean Deck would take him to the Champion's circle, while Steinman was feeling just as assured with his Bear Deck. Both players displayed some unique strategies and showcased the depth of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG. But when the Final Round concluded, it was Ascenscio that emerged victorious as the new YCS Champion!

In addition to the title of Champion, the winners also earned an amazing set of prizes that included an Ultra Rare Digvorzhak, King of Heavy Industry YCS Prize Card, an exclusive YCS Top Cut Mat, an invitation to the 2013 World Championship Qualifier tournament on July 13-14 in Chicago, Illinois and much more!

Kenny Zhou, from Indio, California, deftly out-played his Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG peers to earn a special Dragon Duel Champion's Medal
Additionally, on Saturday, Kenny Zhou (for Duelists born 2000 or later), from Indio, California, deftly out-played his Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG peers to earn a special Dragon Duel Champion's Medal, a 2013 Regional Game Mat, a Regional Deck Box and an invitation to his region's 2013 Dragon Duel World Championship Qualifier.

There, he can earn an invitation to the Dragon Duel World Championship to be played at the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship August 10-11 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

On Sunday, Ben Leverett beat out a worthy bunch of competitors to earn the same high honors.

Yu-Gi-Oh! CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES HEADS TO AMERICA'S FINEST CITY - SAN DIEGO, CALIFORNIA ON APRIL 6th - 7th, 2013

Upon Registration Duelists Receive An Event-Exclusive Game Mat;
Konami will host Deck-Building Clinics on Sunday

El Segundo, CA - April 3, 2013TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) Yu-Gi-Oh! CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES - The Yu-Gi-Oh! CHAMPIONSHIP SERIES (YCS) presented by Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. (Konami) heads to "America's Finest City," San Diego, California for the third stop of the company's 2013 premier-level competitive series.

YCS San Diego is expected to draw hundreds of Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) players from all over the Western United States and Mexico April 6th-7th and will unveil several 'firsts' - the company will host Deck-building clinics for attendees and, the day one Main Event will utilize sealed decks to emphasis gameplay and strategy.

"The Yu-Gi-Oh! Championship Series provides Duelists with an intense action-filled weekend of Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG gameplay, where everyone will start from a common beginning point with the same number of packs" noted Yumi Hoashi, Vice President of Card Business for Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc. "Duelists will test their skills and strategies as they compete head-to-head against some of the best players in the country. By using sealed Decks, the emphasis shifts to how well each individual Duelist plays and not which cards are in their portfolio."

Duelists should make time to pre-register for the YCS San Diego Main Event from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5th, as those players that pre-register will receive an event-exclusive YCS San Diego Game Mat!

Registration will begin again promptly at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 6th. Upon registering, Duelists will receive ten Battle Pack: Epic Dawn booster packs to build their Deck for Konami's YCS San Diego.

No constructed deck? No worries!
Even those without a constructed deck can get in on the excitement. The first day of YCS San Diego will be a Sealed Deck format using the Battle Pack: Epic Dawn booster packs, with nine Swiss rounds on Day 1. Everyone with at least 19 Match Points will advance to Day Two (three Points for a Win, one Point for a Draw, and 0 Points for a Loss). The second day of YCS San Diego will be played using Advanced Constructed rules and all Duelists who advance will have a fresh record, where each contestant will battle for five Swiss rounds followed by a cut to the Top 32.

The Deck-building clinics, held on Sunday, are a perfect format for budding Duelists to learn how to build a Deck. Giving tips and strategies, the Deck-building experts will teach players how to build a Deck and how to incorporate cards from new and old releases into their Decks.

In addition, Konami will once again hold Dragon Duels for the younger players (for Duelists born in 2000 or later) on Saturday and Sunday. The top four players in each of the Dragon Duel events will receive a special Dragon Duel Champion's Medal, a Regional Game Mat, a Dragon Duel t-shirt and an invitation to their 2013 Dragon Duel World Championship Qualifier. Those who attend the Qualifier have the chance to earn an invitation to the second annual Dragon Duel World Championship to take place at the Yu-Gi-Oh! World Championship in Las Vegas, Nevada August 10th - 11th, 2013.

Duelists can also participate in a wide variety of fun and challenging Public Events to push their Dueling skills to the limit! Konami will be conducting a host of events such as Regional Qualifiers, 3 vs. 3 Team Dueling, ATTACK OF THE GIANT CARD!!, Win-A-Mats, Duelist League, Onslaught of the Fire Kings Structure Deck Tournaments, and Sealed Pack Tournaments for Battle Pack: Epic Dawn, featuring exclusive Starfoil prize cards only available at premier events.
Ultra Rare version of the Digvorzhak, King of Heavy Industry prize card
In addition, for the beginning Duelists, Konami will be holding a Deck-building clinic, to teach the basics on building a Deck to younger Duelists in attendance.

The Main Event winner, the two runners-up and winners of Sunday’s two Public Event playoffs will each be awarded a YCS prize card. EL SEGUNDO, Calif. - March 26, 2013 - With its far-reaching mass appeal, strategic game play, and social bonding attributes, Konami Digital Entertainment, Inc.'s (KONAMI) Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) continues to capture world records.

Previously named the World's Best-Selling Trading Card Game of all time in 2011 with more than 25 billion cards sold, the Yu-Gi-Oh!
