New licensees come on board for 4Kids' hit anime franchise.
4Kids Entertainment is boosting the presence of the Yu Gi Oh brand in Italy, inking a number of new deals.
After launching in Japan in 1999, YU-GI-OH! has captivated children across the globe. 17 million video games have been sold to date worldwide and over 18.1 billion YU-GI-OH! trading cards have been translated into seven languages and sold in 51 countries worldwide -- approximately six million 6-8 year olds collect and play the trading card game across the globe.
The franchise has already proved successful in the territory. Season three of Yu Gi Oh GX continues to air on Saturday mornings on Mediaset's Italia 1, which has also acquired the first season of new show, Yu Gi Oh 5D's. Set in Domino City, transformed into a futuristic metropolis, 5D'S feature duelists battling it out on motorcycles or 'Duel Runners', in a new form of dueling called 'Turbo Duels' -- hi-octane contests in which the winners and losers are no longer separated by skill and strength, but by speed.
"Yu Gi Oh is hugely popular in Italy and its success shows no signs of abating," stated Sandra Vauthier-Cellier, MD of 4Kids. "The brand is absolutely red hot at the moment and the arrival of 5D's is adding to the excitement surrounding it."
New licensing deals include Linea D, which will be creating t-shirts, sweatshirts, underwear, jeans, towels, jackets and shoes. Meanwhile, Giochi Preziosi has been signed up for back to school and stationery. A new toy line is due to launch in the autumn from Upper Deck, including action figures, wrist card holders and Duel Runners (featured in the new series).

Yu-Gi-Oh! Wheelie-spins on to Wii Posted Wednesday, 4/29/2009 by PPNSteve
Konami reveals first Yu-Gi-Oh! title for Nintendo format as racing title based on new 5D's series revs up...
Konami Digital Entertainment GmbH has announced its first Yu-Gi-Oh! title for Wii. Entitled Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Wheelie Breakers, the game will be released in the USA on April 19th, and for the UK in September, 2009.
The Wii game uses characters and situations from the new Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's series, which takes place in the future and revolved around the adventures of Yusei Fudo, the hottest duelist in Neo Domino City.
Based on the 'Turbo Duels' in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's animated series, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Wheelie Breakers introduces players to a fast-paced twist on the racing genre. Yusei and Jack duel in a new motorsport called 'Wheelie Breakers' that combines card dueling with duel wheel racing. As they race around the track in their Duel Runner motorcycles, players call upon monsters from their decks to battle their opponents and prevent them from finishing the race. These cards can then be rearranged between races as strategies to unseat the rival players are developed. Using achievement points which players receive based on their race results, they can purchase new cards and add them to their decks providing upgrades.
Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Wheelie Breakers takes full advantage of the Wii's control system as players use the Wii Remote for both competitive card dueling and Duel Runner racing. Users can also use the Nunchuk during races, allowing for split-second maneuvers including, acceleration, steering and recovery. A wide selection of gameplay modes are also offered including Story Mode, Grand Prix Mode, and Competition Multiplayer Mode with up to four players competing via a split screen system.
As has become traditional with Konami’s Yu-Gi-Oh! titles, Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Wheelie Breakers will be released with three official Trading Cards inside the box.

Konami Digital Prevails in Appeal Proceedings against Upper Deck Posted Wednesday, 4/15/2009 by PPNSteve
Konami Digital Prevails in Appeal Proceedings against Upper Deck
Here is the Press Release from Konami Corporation:
El Segundo, CA (April 15, 2009) -- The Amsterdam Court of Appeal ruled in favor of Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. (KDE) in appeal proceedings against Upper Deck International (UDI). UDI had requested a preliminary injunction to compel KDE to accept UDI as its exclusive distributor for Europe, Oceania and Latin America. On April 7, 2009, the Court of Appeal rejected all of UDI's claims.
Having reviewed the evidence presented in summary proceedings, a panel of three professional appeal judges issued a decision holding that UDI had failed to show that the 12 December 2008 termination of the distribution relationship regarding the Yu-Gi-Oh! TRADING CARD GAME (TCG) in Europe and Latin America, had been unlawful. The decision confirms that there is significant evidence that links the Upper Deck Company to the distribution of counterfeit Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG in North America. In this respect, the Court of Appeal's decision echoes an earlier ruling by the District Court for the Central District of California, United States.
"This is a terrific victory for the legions of Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG Duelists worldwide," noted Kunio Neo, President of Konami Digital Entertainment B.V. "Managing all aspects of the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG business directly not just in Asia and North America, but globally, will allow Konami Digital Entertainment to strengthen and protect the integrity of the brand throughout the world."
Under the terms of the court's preliminary ruling, the distribution agreement between KDE and UDI was rightfully terminated as of 12 December 2008. This means that, with immediate and retroactive effect, UDI is no longer the authorized distributor of Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG for all of Europe, Oceania and Latin American territories.
Distributors, retailers or hobby stores interested in setting up accounts for the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG in Europe and Oceania, or conducting events or tournaments should contact KDE's European office at yugioh@konami-europe.net. For Latin American inquiries, please contact KDE's US office at +1-310-220-8630 or card-po@konami.com.

4Kids uploads Japanese Yu-Gi-Oh! episodes to YouTube Posted Wednesday, 3/18/2009 by PPNSteve
A few hours ago, 4Kids uploaded the first two episodes of Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters onto their official YouTube channel. Both episodes are available in the dubbed English version and in the original, unedited Japanese version. This is the first time that 4Kids has uploaded any version of YGO DM onto YouTube.
The Japanese episodes appear to be the TV versions, as they contain the still image after the opening and ending that normally displays the sponsors of the show (when the it airs on Japanese TV). The episodes also contain the next-episode preview, which weren't available even on 4Kids' three, short-lived Yu-Gi-Oh! Uncut DVDs. Unfortunately for non-speakers of Japanese, the videos are raws - they don’t have any subtitles, neither hard-subs nor YouTube captions.

Right now, the episodes appear to be region locked and are only be available to users who reside in North America.
For those of you who have been living under a rock (or who just don't pay attention to this stuff ^^;), 4Kids Entertainment is the license owner of the Yu-Gi-Oh! property outside of Asia. They're widely known for localizing and editing their anime acquisitions. In late 2004, they began releasing Yu-Gi-Oh! Uncut DVDs, but discontinued them after only three volumes (nine episodes). Since then, there have been no new appearances of the uncut Japanese episodes... until now.
4Kids knows that there are fans who want this. They say, right in the video descriptions, "Completely unfettered, un-edited. You asked for it, you’ve got it." Thanks, 4Kids!
